Veterans Day parade

Illinois veterans deserve our utmost honor, respect, and remembrance. They dedicated their lives to protect our country, freedom, and others around the world. While we can never do enough for these brave men and women, small tokens of appreciation can go a long way in honoring them and showing younger generations the impact our veterans have on the fabric of our country and our lives.

To show our appreciation for our veterans and their sacrifices, the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus is showcasing their legacy of service. This year, we are encouraging everyone across the state to submit a photograph and written story of any veteran, which will be displayed on the Veterans Day “Wall of Honor” in the South Hall of the Capitol from November 11 to November 25. With Veterans Day on November 11, it’s a perfect opportunity to tell the amazing stories of our heroes to those who visit our State Capitol.

Please help us publicize this effort and encourage people to submit a veteran’s name, his/her story, and photograph. In addition, we would greatly appreciate you distributing to your membership and the veterans you serve.

Here are the details:

Please email a photo and written story (max: 250 words) along with the following information: name, military branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy) and conflict served (Afghanistan, Iraq, September 11, Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Peacetime, other). Military photos are preferred but not necessary.

Please email submissions to veteransday@sgop.ilga.gov by November 6. Submissions can also be mailed to Veterans Day Wall, 110D Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706. For questions, please call (217) 782-1154.

This will be a touching tribute to our veterans and their families.

Thank you for your help!

September Interveterans

September 25, 2024 Meeting of the Interveterans Council of Sangamon County at 3100 Stanton St
Springfield, IL 62703

Veterans Assistance Commission of Sangamon County Oct 17, 2024 at 7PM at VFW 755

<><><><>

Greetings,

I am reaching out to you at the suggestion of Chris Roberts, the head caretaker at Camp Butler.  The Camp will be included this year in Saluting Branches National Day of Service, an event held by area arborists to volunteer their skills and equipment to Veterans' sites across the country as a way of honoring the veterans and their families who have given so much to our nation.

I am the site leader this year and I am excited to have gotten commitments from several tree crews to help out.  We may have 30 to 40 crew members on site working.  I hope to be able to provide them with some morning coffee and treats (such as donuts and pastries) as they get organized and head out to their work areas. Is that something you think your organization could help with?  I am not familiar with Interveterans so you'll have to educate me.

I've gotten Farm and Home Supply to donate water, and  Brian Reily with Cured Catering is going to donate lunch.  I am not sure if he will need any help in the serving line or not but will find out.  I'll attach a flyer about the event to this email.  Let me know if there is anything else you need from me.

Thanks,
Steve

Event: In Coordination with the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs Illiana Health Care, Suicide Prevention Team, Richland Community College presents the 4th Annual Operation Obstacle - The Race to End Veteran Suicide. Each day, 17 of our nation's Veterans die by suicide. Join us for a timed, 2-mile obstacle course race to raise awareness of Veteran suicide. The course is mostly flat and will have between 15-20 obstacles. A few of the obstacles involve carrying & pulling objects a short distance, army net crawls, and climbing over, under, and through obstacles. There will also be a Fire Truck hose down at the finish line. All participants get a finishers challenge coin and goodie bag. Proceeds will support Richland Community College's Student Veteran's Resource Center.

Non-Competitive Fun Run: This year we'll also have a Non-Competitive Fun Run, for participants that would like to jog or walk the course, and skip some or all of the obstacles.

Registration: The registration is online only through Race Roster and will be cut off at 9:30 am on race day. You must be 18 years of age to participate. Help us promote the race on social media, and earn 5% on every registration fee, for each of your referred registrants, using your own unique Race Roster link. More info on the promoter link on the left sidebar.

(New) Gift Registrations: You can purchase "gift" registrations — like sending a registration gift card! You can purchase a code and have it sent to someone else, to allow that person to register for free! Click on the Gift Registrations tab on the left-hand side of the this page.

Donations: Not able to participate? Please consider offering a donation using the links on the left side of this page. A sponsorship sign with your name or business name, will be displayed at the event, for sponsors donating $100 or more. You can also donate to help a participant reach their donation goals. Your donation is tax-deductible and we appreciate your support for our Veterans.

(New): The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on September 21st. United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. Operation Obstacle T-Shirts will have a (IPD) symbol on them to celebrate (IPD). T-shirts are available for $20 each during registration. Please select your size. The shirt cutoff date is 09/08/24.

OPERATION OBSTACLE WAIVER & ASSUMPTION OF RISK: You will be required to sign the online waiver during registration.

Check-In: The race check-in, start, and finish will be in the Richland Fitness Center parking lot, located at the north entrance of the Workforce Development Institute, near the old RCC Green House. The check-in starts at 8:30 am and ends at 9:30am. You will receive your race bib, timing chip and goodie bag. The race announcements, Honor Guard presentation of the flag, and national anthem will be at 10am, with the race starting after the national anthem. Participants will be started in corrals based on your anticipated time to finish the race.

Parking: There is plenty of parking near the race start. Please do not park in the Fitness Center Parking lot, where the event is being held. You can park in the parking lots to the west, across from the event.

Awards: There will be recognition and trophies for the top 3 Male & Female Finishers.

Subject: 9/11 Patriot Day Volunteer Opportunity

 Good Morning,

My name is Madison Woodson and I work for the non-profit Carry The Load. I'm reaching out because I think you might be interested in our 9/11 Patriot Day Volunteer Opportunity. We are partnering with the VA National Cemetery Administration to host headstone cleanings and ground beautifications at over 65 National Cemeteries this September 11th. We'll be near you volunteering at xxxxx and would love for you to join us.

The event lasts 3 hours (or however much time you can donate) and is open to all ages. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. More specific details are sent out before the event. Registration is FREE, but required, as some of our cemeteries have maximum capacities for participation due to space constraints. I promise this isn't a scam, just a volunteer opportunity we're hoping to get the whole country involved in.

I'm linking our website below should you be interested in learning more about our event or registering to participate. I am also happy to answer any questions you may have. You can also call us at 214-723-6068 to speak with us about any questions you may have. I hope you'll join us this Patriot Day in honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

 Thanks,

Madison Woodson

Please consider sponsoring our event!
Our first signature fundraising event is a golf outing at Long Bridge Golf Course on Sunday, September 15, 2024. The proceeds earned at this event will allow us to begin fulfilling our mission to our military community, starting January 2025, or sooner.
We'll begin fulfilling our mission by accepting applications from local veterans, active-duty military and their families requesting emergency financial support.
Our goal is to grow into a full support resource and offer programs specifically targeting local needs.
Please consider becoming a sponsor for our event. Each sponsorship comes with signage. The sign can be a business logo, a family name, or In Memory of a loved one.
You can find our sponsorship information on our website www.militaryfamiliestogether.org or on Facebook.
