Interveterans January

Interveterans Council of Sangamon County for  January 2021

My name is Nicci and I am a Servant Heart Leader with the Mission BBQ that is opening in Springfield Illinois. I received your contact information from Dane Shaffer and I am very excited to work with you in the future. I'm not sure if you have heard about us or not, but we are in the business of Serving Those Who Serve and we periodically give to several charities throughout the year, one of them being the Wreaths Across America.

Our USO charity night is coming up on January 22nd from 6pm-9pm and we would love it if you could make it out to any or all of our charity nights leading up to our opening. A portion of our cup sales and food sales goes directly to the designated charity for our police, fire, and USO. We sell WAA cups starting just after Thanksgiving going through Christmas. We also have teammates and other leaders volunteer to lay wreaths every year.

We are going to be store #100 here in central Illinois, opening on January 25th at Noon. It should be a great turn out with a ladder fire truck and large American flag, a live National Anthem singer, honor/color guard and all of our uniformed heroes from the community.

I have attached those fliers here at the end of the email. We can't wait to get started here in the community and become a part of the family. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have and have a great day!

Kind regards,
Nicci Thirlwall

Wreaths Across America Donations

I wanted to let everyone know, we are still doing Wreaths Across America this year at Camp Butler National Cemetery. I have been working with Camp Butler on how things will proceed this year with everything that has been going on in the world. Needless to say we will not be able to have a ceremony on the 19th of December. We will however be placing wreaths still. The National Cemetery Association is not allowing for the wreaths to be delivered or distributed at the cemetery. I am however happy to say R.P. Lumber Company at 3501 Lumber Rd in Springfield has stepped up and is going to be our place of distribution of wreaths this year.

If you normally order a wreath for a specific grave site and place it yourself. You will need to pick up your wreath(s) on Saturday, December 19th between 8:00am-10:00am at R.P. Lumber.

If you like to come out and help distribute wreaths in general. You will be able to pick up wreaths on Saturday, December 19th between 10:00am-12:00pm at R.P. Lumber.

Both pick ups will be drive through only with volunteers handing them out to you while you stay in your vehicle. We will be giving each vehicle two wreaths. You can go place your wreaths and come back for more as many times as you want.

Wreaths can be ordered online at
https://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/18169
or

You can message us and we will get a form sent to you.

Thank you very all your support this year.

Veterans Day events to be discussed at that time.  We need to think outside the box.  We hate not to ignore Veterans Day with all the disregard for history and the fact we missed last year because of the snow.  Veterans Day parade is canceled for 2020

Next quarterly VAC meeting is 3rd WEDNESDAY of month  21st of October at American Legion Post 32.

For the past 30 years, there has been a lack of objective tools for diagnosing Gulf War Illness (GWI), which is largely characterized by central nervous system (CNS) symptoms emerging from 1991 Gulf War (GW) veterans. In a recent preliminary study, we reported the presence of autoantibodies against CNS proteins in the blood of veterans with GWI, suggesting a potential
