InterveteransAugust2020

Next meeting September 30 at the Navy club.  There will be no food and social distancing is recommended.

Veterans Day events to be discussed at that time.  We need to think outside the box.  We hate not to ignore Veterans Day with all the disregard for history and the fact we missed last year because of the snow.

Unaccompanied burial in Oct 7, 2020 9am

Next quarterly VAC meeting is 3rd WEDNESDAY of month  21st of October

5th Annual Purple Heart Day Ceremony where we honor the men and women who were awarded the Purple Heart Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 1 PM – 2:30 PM  Oak Ridge Cemetery.  This event will be on facebook live.

Please pass along to other posts. I will bring this up at the meeting tonight.

Please consider donating to the Veterans of Log Base Seitz.  This is  an organization comprised of Veterans who served in the 1544th Transportation Company in OIF 2. These Veterans are from Central Illinois including Sangamon County, and Southern and Northern Illinois. We suffered the 2nd highest mortality rate of any National Guard unit during the Iraq War. 5 Soldiers were KIA and 32 of us received the Purple Heart.  We are seeking donations to hold a retreat this year for members of this unit.

American Legion Family Garage Sale and Cook Out at Post 32 to generate funds for The American Legion, due to the loss of the State Fair Parking revenue.  The date is Saturday, August 15, 7 a.m. – 2 p.m., at Post 32.

If interested you MUST sign up by August 10, 2020, but keep in mind, we will have a total of 30 spaces and  the first 30 who respond will be guaranteed a space for the garage sale.  You will need to provide your own table and chair(s), and a tent if you want one and although we have no charge for the space, you must agree to make a donation to American Legion Post 32 from your sales.  You must respond to spfldpost32@outlook.com or stop by Post 32 and then receive a confirmation that you have a space.  We will be placing the tables in our Joles parking area and will reserve the Legion asphalt lot for our customers.

Our American Legion Family will also have tables for items to sell, where all proceeds will go to The American Legion.  If you wish to donate usable items, please contact Auxiliary President Suzie Q Weiss at 341-3728.

The Sons of The American Legion will be selling $1 beers and $3 bloody mary’s and Robie Q Weiss and Tim Farley will be cooking outside for us all.  The beer, soda, food and etc will be under our beautiful Armbruster Tent in the parking lot.
