Save the date Saturday May 6th 2023 Oak Ridge Cemetery Springfield Illinois. ( Opening ceremony starts at noon best to be there by 11:00 first guard will be posted in the 24-hour vigil promptly at noon)
This will be the 35th anniversary of the " Vietnam Veterans Annual Vigil."
This year we're attempting to do something that's never been done before, that is to surround all the memorials with people.
This will take place moments before the Chaplain closes with his prayer.
The research that was done has calculated the number of people to actually get this done would take around 586 people. That number is a big stretch possibly could do it with less but we will need to help of everyone to achieve this.
Looking for groups that can help us could be girl scout groups boy scout groups dance groups theater groups, US postal workers UPS workers . National guard.. VFW members.. American Legion members.. Motorcycle groups.. individuals welcome bring your family...does not have to be with a group just come we would love to have you!

If you have groups interested please email me at "charlenemathes8@gmail.com"

Entries for the Veterans Day parade can be accepted at tonight's Interveterans Council meeting or up to 5 days prior to the event.  The parade will be short due to construction.  Although the parade is about veterans and some posts do sponsor a scout pack, those scouts may walk with their supporting organization but not as a group on their own.    Any veteran related group can sign up.

Re-emphasising this email that either ONLY allows scouts in the parade if scout troops are directly sponsored/supported by a veterans organization like the American Legion for example. Participating scouts must be veteran related.  Scouts may walk as part of that Legion post supporting the veterans organization that sponsors them by meeting locations. at a post or financially.  Permission is with their sponsoring post commander's permission to march with the post. All others may proudly line the parade route and honor the veterans in the parade.  We want scouts to honor and appreciate the sacrifices of our veterans.  It is a learning experience for our youth.

Civil Air patrol, though not veterans themselves necessarily, is veteran related by its nature.

Hope this clears things up.

Join us on Veterans Day for a special salute to Veterans!
Members of the U.S. Armed Forces, both Active duty and Veterans, receive free museum admission on Friday, November 11, 2022 with proof of military service.
All other guests wanting to view the Museum exhibits will need to purchase regular Museum admission; they can do so at the ticket counter upon arrival or in advance online. Do not reserve a ticket online for Armed Forces members, their proof of service will act as their ticket for the day.
All of our guests on Veterans Day will enjoy a free performance by the "Airlifters Brass Ensemble" from the Mid-America Air Force Band at Scott AFB. The Airlifters will perform in the ALPLM plaza from 1pm-2pm.
We'll also pay tribute to our fallen veterans with a special memorial flame on display just outside the main entrance to the museum.
