Virtual Veteran Suicide Prevention Symposium: Reach Out, You Are Not Alone

Event Details: This symposium will educate, inform, and empower Veterans, Service members, family members, caregivers, and survivors; as well as Veteran advocates, non-profit and community organizations about VA programs that can serve as protective factors for suicide such as access to care, benefits, services, financial literacy and Veterans Crisis Line resources. All of these remain VA’s way of letting Veterans know that they are not alone; VA is here to help.

We are excited to announce that the Staab Family's Annual Ride in Honor is set for Sunday, October 9.
This year, we are raising money for the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
Meet at Staab Funeral Home, 1109 South Fifth Street, at noon and we'll take off at 1 pm.
Stops will include Spaulding Veterans Memorial, Camp Butler National Cemetery, War Memorials at Oak Ridge Cemetery, and New Berlin Area Veterans Memorial.
We'll wrap it all up with food and drink at VFW Lafore Lock Post 755.

September 25, 2022 at 2:00pm: Paint n Sip at VFW Lock Post 755. All proceeds from this Paint n Sip will go to the VFW to help veterans. Cost is only $25.00! All materials are provided and 2 speciality drinks are included in your ticket! We all know a veteran either in our family, a friend or acquaintance. Help us help them. If you can't make it please donate and I will paint for you! To register please contact me or the VFW Post 755. Also, I have added a picture of what you'll be making.  Also, please share and spread the word of this event. Thank you! Hope to hear from you all!

Angler's Tribute to Veterans is an event to help get Veterans back on the water. We raise funds and through a nomination process give Veterans a day on Lake Shelbyville and then provide meals and gifts along the way.

Join FSR/SARA Center as we raise awareness of homelessness of our military veterans in our community AND raise funds for the FSR/SARA Center programs, including those dedicated to serving veterans.
Boxes will be provided on site. Campout in a simple box, or bring supplies to decorate yours for the contest!
Raise the “rent” and get your camp site for the event by collecting pledges or donating to Fifth Street Renaissance. We are asking everyone to have a goal of raising $100, but all contributions will be accepted. Donations can also be made online or by mailing to Fifth Street Renaissance.
Family friendly activities and food will be available, as well as a coloring and poster contest for youth (check the website for details).

Veterans and Gold Star Families Day at the 2022 Illinois State Fair

Free admission for veterans and immediate family on Sunday, August 14

(Springfield) - The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA), the Illinois Department of Agriculture, and the Illinois State Fair invite veterans and their family members to enjoy a free day at the Illinois State Fair on Sunday, August 14, 2022. This annual event offers exciting events, programs, and music. It concludes with a parade led by Governor JB Pritzker and IDVA Director Terry Prince along with veterans’ organizations, JROTC teams, and IDVA staff. This year’s theme, “Veterans Build Illinois,” features remarks from Brad Schaive, LIUNA Local 477.
Veterans and their families can show any form of military ID for free admission. Parking is not included.

All events take place at the Lincoln Stage.

The Illinois National Guard will be in support of the day’s events:

• The Illinois Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion will provide three Noncommissioned Officers to judge the JROTC Drill and Ceremony competition. Musical entertainment by the 144th Army Band.

The Macon County Honor Guard will be presenting colors.

During the Celebration of Life, one person from each Gold Star family will lay a yellow rose at the base of the Battlefield Cross.

The Benefits Exposition includes information about benefits, services and activities for veterans and their family members from the IDVA, state and federal agencies, veteran service organizations and non-profits.

The JROTC drill teams will be awarded first, second and third prize with a monetary gift and plaque provided by the service organizations.

Media are welcomed to attend, and advance publicity of the event is appreciated.
