No Interveterans Council Meeting July and Aug per by Laws. VAC has a surplus of tickers for Active Duty, Veterans, and their families to attend the Military Appreciation Night July 2nd at 6:30pm. If you are interested and would like a bundle our Military/Veteran community, please let me know. You can pick them up or I can work to get them over to you. The VAC’s new location for in-person services will be on the first floor of 300 S. 9th Street, Springfield, Illinois 62701.

This evening's meeting guest was Bob Cox from Capitol City Builders.  They are a group of woodworking hobbyists.  They are willing to make urns for unaccompanied veterans at Camp Butler that arrive in cardboard boxes.  He is only asking for money for materials and not labor. 
He brought a prototype to the meeting showing how the cremains arrived in the past and the box that will replace it with dignity.  He mentions that the Springfield DAR has donated $200 toward the project already.  A box was used as part of the vacant chair ceremony at Memorial Day ceremony at Camp Butler. 
Materials for each run about $20 for wood, glue and screws.

n celebration of our 108th Birthday, the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Army, and Flag Day, Scott Air Force Base is scheduled to host an Open House and STEM Expo on Jun. 14, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We invite the public out to the base to see their U.S. Armed Forces in action and to meet the servicemen and women who defend our nation. There will be a variety of aircraft and military equipment for viewing, as well performances by the U.S. Air Force Band of MidAmerica.  As details are finalized, they will be posted to our Web site at Open House.

 

Please feel free to add the attached flyer to your community’s/business’s/organization’s calendars and share it amongst your family, friends, coworkers, and colleagues.  We hope to see everyone at the Open House.

Bring your unserviceable flags to SCHEELS on June 14th from
10am-3pm and we'll exchange your retired flag for a free new American Made one.
We will also be hosting a flag retirement ceremony performed by the American Legion Post #32 Springfield Illinois members at SCHEELS to properly dispose of the unserviceable United States flags.

 1.  We will be having Mouse Races here at Post 10302 on July 12 with doors opening at 6 pm and races from 7-10. A flyer is attached.
  2.  Our Annual Poker Run will be September 6. It will begin and end here at Post 10302. Once we have all the destinations and a flyer, we will forward it to you.
  3.  Post 10302 will have a cookout on July 4th. A sign up sheet is available in the Canteen for side dishes for those who wish to participate.

Mr. Paul A. Golladay, an Active Member of the U.S. Army and a member of Springfield Post #32, The American Legion has a group of dedicated people who are helping restore gravestones and graves of U.S. Military Veterans from ALL WARS.  They have a Work-Day scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2025, starting at 9 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery.  Sgt Golladay and his group will be just down from Lincoln’s Tomb near the GAR Mound, at The American Legion Post 32 plots at Oak Ridge.  They need a lot of volunteer help.  If you can assist, please contact Sgt Golladay at ssgolladay@gmail.com or just show up at 9 a.m., April 19th.

 

What a worthwhile project this is honoring our sister and brother Veterans from all wars.  I hope you can attend.
