Camp Butler National Cemetery’s Semi-Annual Unaccompanied and Unclaimed Honors Ceremony will provide military honors for 10 Unaccompanied Veterans, who have been previously inurned, and will provide military honors for 3 Unclaimed Veterans, who will be inurned on this date, with no family in attendance or living next of kin.

Participants include:
Remarks by Camp Butler National Cemetery
Presentation of Colors by Lanphier High School JROTC
Military Funeral Honors by USA, USN, USAF
Rife Salute and Taps by Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County

8th Annual Campout 4 Homeless Veterans Oct 18.

The Chatham-Auburn VFW Auxiliary is organizing a donation drive for the Quincy Veterans Home, scheduled for September 20th from 2-5 PM. There are currently 289 veterans residing at the Quincy Veterans home. We have obtained a copy of their wish list. If you are unable to participate on 09/20/25, a donation box will be provided at the VFW. Monetary donations may be given to the bartender. Please direct any questions to Michele at 815-953-6662.

“Spirit of ‘45” Commemoration

Please see attached media advisory for Camp Butler National Cemetery Spirit of 45 Commemoration Ceremony on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 2pm – 5063 Camp Butler Road, Springfield, Illinois 82707.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Camp Butler National Cemetery in partnership with the Inter-Veterans Council of Sangamon County will host ‘The Spirit of ’45’ Commemoration Ceremony to honor World War II Veterans on the 80th anniversary of President Truman’s announcement of the unconditional surrender of Imperial Japan marking the end of World War II.

The ceremony will include remarks by Camp Butler National Cemetery, a wreath dedication, a moment of silence, and military honors provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.

The ceremony will take place at the Service Seal Wall located on the westside of the cemetery.

All members of the local community and our media partners are welcome to attend. This will be an outdoor event, please plan accordingly.
