VA Illiana is planning for our Patient Experience Week, 4/22 – 4/26  and we are hoping to volunteers in our event.  The National Salute efforts were such a success that we would like to know if you and your fellow volunteers would like to distribute a special item or snack one day during the week.   We are looking to do this on Tuesday 4/23/19,  but there is flexibility in the schedule if another day better fits the volunteer availability. 

I am attaching a photo of the general idea that we have for an item.  One of our volunteers did a travel size Kleenex with a phrase of “You Blow Us Away”, which was inexpensive but well received .  She was able to print the phrase out on mailing labels and just stuck it to the Kleenex container.  We would love to see your creativity with the project. 

If you have any interest in supporting our Patient Experience Week efforts please let me know and I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Illinois State Museum in Springfield is one of more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense.
The launch of the Blue Star Museums program at the ISM will begin May 26 for Memorial Day weekend and wrap up on Labor Day, September 4. A list of participating museums is available at https://www.arts.gov/national/blue-star-museums
Free admission is always available to active military personnel and veterans at the Illinois State Museum in Springfield, but for the duration of the Blue Star Museum program the free admission will be extended to an additional five family members. WASHINGTON — Veterans Affairs officials will start issuing new veterans ID cards next month, giving recipients an easy way to provide their military service for business discounts and other promotions.The move, first reported by Military.com, comes two years after Congress passed legislation for the cards. A VA spokesman said they’ll be made available for no cost to any veteran who applies through the department’s website.
The new cards won’t replace VA medical cards or official defense retiree cards, and will not carry any force of law behind them.
But supporters have called a national veterans ID card a simple way to honor veterans’ service and a way to help them prove their service status for non-federal activities. They have also argued that many veterans’ practice of carrying around copies of their military discharge paperwork or other personal documents to get corporate discounts leaves them open to fraud and identity theft.

Today was veterans day at the state fair and the program was the best yet. Guest speaker was the most recent awardee of the Medal of Honor: Spc. 5 James C. McCloughan. He seemed so humble and and real. He even sang "Wind Beneath my Wings" and "Proud to be an American". His speech brought tears to my eyes. McCloughan even was in the parade. The Gold Star families were honored also.
