SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — The Department of Veterans Affairs Camp Butler National Cemetery will honor the service, sacrifice, and enduring achievements of the Armed Forces in a 50th Anniversary event.
The event is at 2 p.m. on March 29 at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
The event will commemorate Vietnam War Veterans and include a pinning ceremony to all Vietnam Veterans in attendance.
Lapel pins will be presented in a dignified manner to each Vietnam Veteran during the event and include accompanying remarks to reflect the nation’s thanks for their service and sacrifice.
State Representative Wayne Rosenthal will be the keynote speaker at the event.
All Vietnam War and Vietnam Era Veterans get a FREE Sandwich
on National Vietnam War Veterans Day

Trinity Lutheran in Auburn holds a veterans dinner and topic on the 22d of each month to raise awareness of the 22 veteran suicides. However, this month it will be held on the 21st due to Ash Wednesday. Reservations requested.

The American Legion is again to host the 89th Annual National American Legion Pilgrimage to the Tomb of Abraham Lincoln on Sunday, February 12, 2023, Lincoln’s Birthday. As you will note from the attached History of the Lincoln Day Pilgrimage the World War I Veterans and members of Springfield Post 32, The American Legion originated this program on February 12, 1935, and it has continued, every year, always on Mr. Lincolns Birthday.
We urge everyone to attend all of the activities that are listed on the attached 2023 Pilgrimage Brochure and to attend the Open House at American Legion Post 32, on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Meal reservations must be received by February 1, 2023.

Entries for the Veterans Day parade can be accepted at tonight's Interveterans Council meeting or up to 5 days prior to the event. The parade will be short due to construction. Although the parade is about veterans and some posts do sponsor a scout pack, those scouts may walk with their supporting organization but not as a group on their own. Any veteran related group can sign up.

Civil Air patrol, though not veterans themselves necessarily, is veteran related by its nature.
