We are looking for volunteers to work concession stands at Busch Stadium with us! Due to the pandemic there is a shortage of employees. So we have an opportunity to go to work for them and raise a little money in the process! We will make a percentage of the revenue made at the concession stands that we work at! We will be planning a few days to go down as a big group, however if you and a few friends would like to go down and work together they can find a spot for you to work! Hello, 

 

I am the President of the Making History Project (www.making-history-project.com), a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving the memories and stories of Veterans through oral history interviews. 

 

I am taking the project on the road in July/August on an American Heartland Tour (https://making-history-project.com/american-heartland-tour/) that will cover 15 States and 5,124 miles. The goal is to obtain additional oral history interviews as I travel through the small towns that make America great. The included States are Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. 

 

I am writing to find out if there is a way to get this message out to your local Chapters to see if there are Veterans interested in providing an oral history interview. Specifically, I will be in the area of Springfield around August 6th, give or take a few days.

 

Just so you know, the oral history interviews are recorded by video and will be archived with the Veterans History Project for the US Library of Congress; the University of Florida Samuel Proctor Oral History Project, and on our own project website. When the interview is concluded, the Veteran and his/her family are provided with an unedited copy of the interview that is recorded on a DVD so they have something immediately while the final video is being edited.

Attention All Veterans and Guardians....

The Honor Flight Network announced that its mandatory suspension of all trips will remain in place until at least August 15, 2021. Once trips resume, among other mandatory COVID-related safety measures, all Honor Flight participants will be required to be vaccinated to participate in an Honor Flight trip in 2021. This includes veterans, guardians and staff. In order for a participant to be considered vaccinated for this purpose, the individual must provide proof that they have received either the single dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine at least 28 days prior to the travel date or the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines at least 2 weeks prior to the travel date. We want to make sure the Veterans and Guardians on our wait list have sufficient time to be vaccinated and are ready to fly when the suspension is lifted. Honor Flight is implementing these requirements for the health and safety of all participants.

The Next Interveterans Council of Sangamon County meeting will be Mar 24, 2021 (4th Wed of the month but March happens to have 5 Wednesdays this year) at 7PM at the Navy Club. Mark Anderson be acting commander in the absence of the Commander, Phil  Brown.  He will be back in April.  The Navy club is not open but the Marine Corps League has been meeting there. During this pandemic, the Navy club had to get a new furnace. Hopefully the bar will be reopening about May. Bring your own drink and there is no trash service.

As always, we would like to know how you are doing and what your posts have been doing during the pandemic.  

Mask and social distancing is highly encouraged.

Land of Lincoln Honor Flight (LLHF) of Springfield Illinois announces the cancellation of the in-person 2021 Annual Business Meeting due to health and safety concerns as well as public gathering restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In lieu of this meeting, LLHF has developed a 2020 Annual Report addressing all information normally imparted at the Annual Business Meeting. This report includes a recap of 2020 activities, a list of major donors and in-kind donation partners, the proposed 2021 operating budget and projected 2021 flight dates. The National Honor Flight Organization has suspended all flights nationwide through June 30, 2021 due to health concerns, restrictions and public availability of the memorials in Washington, DC. In consideration of this directive, Land of Lincoln Honor Flight has tentatively scheduled flights on July 20, August 17, September 14, October 12 and November 9 – all subject to approval by our National organization and the status of the pandemic in the country.
